Wayne Douglas Poole

Wayne lived in California for over 30 years. He legally changed his name when he lived in Brockton, Massachusetts. His new name which he went by, was Nom Ono Mon**.

He came back to New England once, for a visit, when his daughter Emily, graduated from college. The college was in Bar Harbor, Maine. He came to Massachusetts and attended a party for Emily, in Scituate, Ma. He went back to California and never visited again. Emily's mother Judith, lives in Watertown, Ma.

Myrtle and I kept in touch with him, via the telephone. He was in touch with others in the family, off and on, with cards, notes or an occasional phone call.

Unfortunately, he was a smoker. He would often quit for awhile but then would start up again.

The coroner told me he died from Arterial Sclerotic Cardio Vascular Disease

He had to use some type of machine every half hour or so, to breathe into, during the last year or so of his life. He had other health issues, too.

He was found by a neighbor friend, on December 6, 2007. They said he was just laying peacefully in bed, with what it seemed like, a smile on his face.

• *[(note: there is a haunting song by the title "Mon Nom" by Linda Lemay ("My Name"- it is in French). I think Nom Ono Mon translated from French means "Name Ono Mine" (or Ono is my name". In Hawaiian, Ono means "good to eat" and is the name of a particular fish, Mon is very close to the word for "ingest" and bird, but Nom isn't close to anything... )

I don't know if any of this would have meant anything to Wayne- he may have just liked the name or that it was spelled the same backwards and forwards. I didn't know him, so perhaps some of you who did could give some insight as to why the name change. Anyway, there you go... ~Becky]
