HARRIET E. VEAZEY, 97, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at The Oaks where she had been a resident for the past three years. She had moved from her Churubusco home to Oak Point in 2000.

She was born on October 3, 1913 in Washington Township, Whitley County to Levi Jacob and Edith A. Morrolf Keiser. She attended the West Ward Grade School and after graduating from the Columbia City High School in 1931 was employed at the Daniel Brothers Grocery.

On November 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to William Cedric Veazey and they made their first home in Fort Wayne and then for many years in Churubusco. Mr. Veazey died in 1997.

She had been employed by the General Electric Company in Fort Wayne for nineteen years and the Bang's Dime Store and Barnhart's Pharmacy in Churubusco.

While her children were growing up, she was active in the P.T.A. and E.U.B. Sunday school. She is a member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star #136, Past Worthy Matron in 1959, Smith Township Extension Homemakers and the Churubusco Women's Literary Club. For several years, she served as the Welcome Wagon Hostess in the Churubusco community. She assisted her husband in restoring old furniture and for many years made patchwork quilts and crocheted rugs.

Survived by daughters, Carolyn (Jim) Curry, Indianapolis, Linda (Adrian) Cook, Uniontown, Ohio; and a son, John (Karen) Veazey, Ridgecrest, CA; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Lee Veazey; sisters, Mary Fleck, Thelma and Marjorie Keiser and a brother, Walter.

The visitation will be from noon to 2 pm Sunday at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City followed by a graveside service at 2:30 pm at the Nolt Cemetery with Chaplain Robin LaRue of the Heartland Hospice officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Churubusco United Methodist Church or the Whitley County Community Foundation.
