MICHAEL BUSH

Michael Bush was born in Germany in 1697. He married Eva Plattner there. Eva was born in Germany about 1697. In the PA Archives, Series 2, Volume XVII, immigrants who landed at Philadelphia August 28, 1735 are listed. Among those landed from the "SHIP HOPE" from Rotterdam by way of Cowes, England, are MICHAEL BUSS, 36; EIFFA BUSS, 36; JERIG ADAM BUSS, 13; LUDWICH BUSS, 11; MARIA

MARGARITA BUSS, 9; JANIS BUSS, 7. In English, these names are; Michael Bush, Eve or Eva Bush, George Adam Bush, Mary Margaret Bush and John Bush.

A family group sheet and pedigree chart assembled by Terrell Gardner gives considerable detail on the family of "Hans Michael Busch". This is apparently the same family listed as passengers on the "Ship Hope". An additional three children are listed, one of whom is known to have died in Germany. Two others apparently died either in Germany or on the voyage to America. This family is said to have remained some years in PA, probably in Berks County, and Michael is reported to have died there July 29, 1749. Another source reports that they moved to the South Branch of the Potomac River in VA and that Michael Bush's estate was settled there March 21, 1775, indicating that he had died near that date. Also, his wife was listed in the estate settlement as "Catherine", suggesting that Eva had died and Michael had remarried.
