

Adrian Wendell Hoffman was born on February 18, 1924 in Alamance County, North Carolina, USA. His parents were Arthur Gurley Hoffman and Katie Evelena Hoffman (Faucette).
He died on September 26, 1944 in Germany and was buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands PLOT Plot D Row 10 Grave 32. He has a memorial at St Marks Church Cemetery Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina, USA .
Staff Sgt. Hoffman was a gunner in a B-24 Liberator bomber stationed in England. He had been awarded the Air Medal and two Oak Leaf clusters. He was a graduate of Elon High School and was a sophomore at Elon College when he was called into the service in March, 1943. He received his basic training at Miami Beach and then attended gunnery school at Lowry Field, Colorado and Harlingen Field, Texas. He remained there for a short time as an instructor and then went to Biggs Field, Ft. Myers, Florida for additional training before his overseas assignment.
A cenotaph marker is located at St. Mark's Church Cemetery, Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina: "In memory of Adrian Wendell Hoffman / February 18, 1924 / Sept 25, 1944 / Buried Germany."
