Abigail Ferris

Biography

Josiah Ferris was Abigail's 2nd husband. She married him as widow Ferris.

Was she a Daniels? Her first husband is an unknown Ferris (not Jeremiah son of Joseph; he married another Abigail). A possible daughter of that marriage would have been Mary Phebe Ferris, who married a Lawrence and died in Canada. DNA relates Mary Phebe's descendants with the Daniels family. If she was a daughter of Jonathan Daniels, she would have been born in New London, and probably married first in Rye, NY - the Daniels family made the journey from New London down the coast to Woodbridge, NJ, stopping along the way in Rye, where two daughters married.

Note about date of birth

FamilySearch's profile for Abigail gives an exact date of birth of July 12, 1723, which was supplied in 2018. However, no source is attached for that and I have found no corroborating record. Perhaps this comes from a gravestone inscription, but in any case it differs from the published date of c. 1728. I've left it in for the moment but it must be viewed as "conjectural".

Josiah Ferris (b. July 12, 1726), son of Sarah or Seariah Mead, grandson of Benjamin Mead, great grandson of John Mead, second great grandson of immigrant William Mead.

Asserted to have married firstly Abigail (b. c1728) on July 7, 1753 in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony, and secondly Mary Peck (b. c1730), daughter of Eliphalet Peck, on Nov. 3, 1762 in Greenwich.

Children with Abigail asserted to be:

• i. Sarah Ferris (b. Mar 3, 1756), born in Greenwich
• ii. OLIVER FERRIS, b. November 22, 1753, Greenwich, CT336; m. ABIGAIL LOCKWOOD, February 10, 1778, Greenwich, CT336; b. Abt. 1755.
