About the Rabie surname

Rabie changed from Rabe (with an accent that I can't insert in this text on the 'e') - German for crow. Christiaan Rabe arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, as a soldier from Leipzig Germany, in 1723. In 1725 he became a Cape citizen and a miller in Drakenstein. In 1727 he married Margaretha Pyl and at that time possessed a slave, a horse and a crest. His children were baptized as Rave. His third child Christiaan married Gertruy Grobbelaar. Their second son, Johannes, was married as Ravi in 1779. My line however goes through his sixth child, Jan Bastiaan, born 1763,and married Hendrina Helena van der Merwe in 1790 in Tulbagh, apparently as Rabie. Their first child, Christiaan Jacobus was born in 1792 in Kamdeboo, married three times, last to Maria Elizabeth Oberholster in 1831. The second child of this marriage (7th all-together) was Christiaan Jacobus , born 1934, who married Martha Maria Muller in Graaff Rienet. Their second child was Christiaan Jacobus, born 1859, married Maria Elizabeth Edith Vorster in Aberdeen S.Africa, in 1865. They had eleven children, one "died young" and two did not marry. My father was Decimus Rabie-Vorster Rabie, born 1901, married Anna Susanna van den Berg in 1927. by Siegfried Rabie
