In my research of long ago, I found that Puckett means "descendent of Little Puca". A puca/pooka is a shapeshifting hobgoblin, the origin of Shakespeare's Puck but more sinister and devilish. In popular culture, the large invisible rabbit from the movie "Harvey" was a pooka, who ran out of magic mid-shapeshift between human and rabbit forms. I believe all of this mythology originates in the British isles.
