Roland H. Nylen, of Manhattan, formerly of Hazel Crest, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Germaine Nylen (nee Mooney); three sons, John H. (Donna) of Hawthorne Woods, Edward R. (Deborah) of Country Club Hills and Steven J. (Dana) of Manhattan; four grandchildren, Kevin (Kelli), Michael, Steven Jr., and Kelly; his sister, Lenore (Walter) Helbig of FL; his sisters-in-law, Claire (Malachy-deceased) Coghlan and Helen (Eugene-deceased) Mooney; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Esther Nylen. Roland was a patriotic Veteran who served in the 381st Military Police Battalion in Germany during WWII. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Hazel Crest for 30 years retiring District Chief and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 62 for 64 years. Funeral service for Roland will be Monday, June 13, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from Forsythe Funeral Home to St. Joseph Church, 235 West North St., Manhattan for 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. Memorials to the Manhattan Fire Department would be appreciated.
