William Layton 1630-1708 and family stayed in Monmouth County from 1660's to 1900's.. My maiden name is Layton and I am still in Monmouth County, N.J.. Except for Thomas Layton who was living in New Utrecht in 1850 and died there in a boating accident that same year. HIs wife Eliza was also from Monmouth County. She relocated to Philadelphia, PA and died there along with 3 of her 4 sons. John E. son of the above Thomas was also in N.Y. Before moving to Oceanport to raise his family.
