(This history of the Carr surname is derived from a key-ring tab. Accuracy is unknown.) This is an English topographical name derived through the middle English Kerr from the Old Norse Kjarr "brushwood, wet ground". Early records mention Osbert de Ker who appears in a Yorkshire charter ca. 1200 and Robert Ker in Northumberland Patent Rolls of 1231. The motto for Carr of Cocken <see Stirnet's "Carr04" page below> is "There is no deceit"
