One of the pioneer settlers of tho district, Mr Thomas Oxenhem. died at his residence, Powderham-street, on Thursday, at the age of 90 years. Mr Oxenhatn came out to this district from the South of England in the Amelia Thompson in 1841, and made his home here. He went through all the vicissitudes of an early settler's life, and took an active part in quelling tho Maori rebellion. For years he followed farming pursuits on the Koru Road noar Oakura, but owing to his great age Mr and Mrs Oxenham some years ago came into town and took up his residence in Powderham-street. The deceasad settler leaves a widow and family, among the latter being : — Mr J. Oxenj ham, of Canterbury ; Mr O. Oxenham, of Tataraimaka ; Mr W. Oxenham, of Tikorangi; Mrs Carrick, of Waitara ; Mrs S. Wright, of Wanganui ; Mrs Greenwood, of Greymouth ; and Mrs W. Dingle, of Okaiawa.
