There is a record of a Thomas House marrying Mollie Running Wolf (Sequoia, but I think that was added after Sequoia became famous). She was supposedly half Cherokee and half Osage. That must have been through a captive woman because the Cheroke e and Osage have been deadly enemies from the Year Dot. The record is in a family Bible, supposedly somewhere in Georgia or Alabama. Thomas House was white. His children would have been half, and on down with the blood percent getting less an less unless one of the Houses married another person with Indian blood. I don't know about Rebecca, but Dennis Westmoreland House was descended from Thomas and Mollie. Mollie is called Amelia in Thomas' will. There's a small article about a "Mr. Thornton" who sometimes traded with the Indians, who is supposed to hav e married Mollie's sister or one of hers and Thomas' daughters. Since I think all those daughters are accounted for, I believe it would be her sister. That fits the time frame better. Unfortunately, although Indian traders had to have passports (Thomas had one), the parttime traders didn't, so I can't find "Mr. Thornton's" first name. There are House cousins all through the Thornton and Westmoreland lines, but so far as I know, I'm not directly kin to any of them. Later on, some of my Thorntons married Cantrells, although again, not in my direct line. I had a call a couple of weeks ago from a Thornton cousin who lives in Puget Sound. She's descended from S.A.D. Thornton, Mordica's sister. Poor lady, she's had nearly 30 surgeries for cancer, and for the last several years, has had a pseudo-tu mor that gives her migraine-like headaches nearly 24 hours a day. Now her husband, Carl, is dying of emphysema, and not only is she losing her caregiver, but she's having to be his. I feel so very sorry for her. This weekend, another of the Thornton cousins, Marvin, descended from my mother's Uncle Andrew, is coming to Wichita Falls with an agriculture show, and I'm going over with a couple of family history files. He's very interested in all that, an d has sent me some useful stuff. Goodness, I sound like I'm really into genealogy, but actually I've done very little with it for the last few years. Think I got a bit burned out. Still, once in a while there's something that's really very interesting, and I almost get lured ba ck into it. I really don't have the time for it right now, and I mustn't get tempted! Anita
