About Tūwharetoa
"Tūwharetoa i te Aupōuri, also called Tūwharetoa-waekae-rakau, ..." (Waitangi Tribunal, 2013; Wikipedia, 2024).
"Tūwharetoa is regarded as the eponymous ancestor of the iwi. He was bom at Te Pare o te rāwahirua (at Ōtamarākau)..." (Ngāti Tūwharetoa (Bay Of Plenty) [ Ngāti Tūwharetoa] & Her Majesty The Queen [HMQ], 2003).
"Tuwharetoa was educated and became skilled in all aspects of the whare wananga,
becoming a man of great knowledge, wisdom and leadership. He had
considerable powers in makutu." (Ngāti Tūwharetoa & HMQ, 2003).
"To them [ Hāhuru & Mawake Taupo] a son, Manaia, was bom. In later years, when Mawake Taupo passed on his mana to his son, Manaia was renamed Tūwharetoa." (Ngāti Tūwharetoa & HMQ, 2003).
"...he [ Tūwharetoa] took Hinemotu... ...they had eight children; Rakeipoho, Rakeihopukia, Taniwha, Hinengarorangi, Turangiawe, Te Aotahi, Poukopa and Poutomuri." (Department of Maori Studies, 1986).
