SIR WILLIAM BORTHWICK OF THAT ILK
Sir William Borthwick of that Ilk is the son and heir of Thomas Borthwick. He is said to have died in or soon after 1414. The Scots Peerage II: 95

18 July 1410: Notarial instrument narrating that John Drummond of Auchterarder, knight, appeared in the presence of the Duke of Albany, Governor of Scotland, and of several of his council, and asked to pledge the lands of Ledcrief, Argayth and Smythtoun in the sheriffdom of Forfar, lands which had been recognosed into the said Governor's hands. John Drummond having been found by inquest of the sheriff of Forfar and other barons (unnamed) to have legitimately entered the lands they were accordingly delivered to him. Done in the tolbooth of Perth, witnesses: Walter, Earl of Atholl; Archibald, Earl of Douglas; George, Earl of March; Alexander, Earl of Mar; Patrick, Earl of Strathearn; William, Lord of Graham; John Stewart of Innermay and WILLIAM BORTHWICK, knights. 18 July 1410: Notarial instrument narrating that Robert Lyle, knight, appeared before the Duke of Albany and his [council] and produced an instrument showing that the deceased Malcolm Drummond, Lord of Mar, had resigned the lands of Ledcrief, Argayth and Smythtoun (in the sheriffdom of Forfar) in his favour. The resignation contained the condition that it could be revoked on the payment of money by the said Malcolm Drummond to the said Robert Lyle. No wife has been identified.
The Borthwick clan website indicates he had at least three sons but only mentions William by name as his successor.[10]
Three sons (two of them priests) and three daughters are certain.
Note this WIlliam, 1st of Borthwick of that Ilk is different than his grandson William, 1st Lord Borthwick.
'Clan Borthwick' is unreliable as an authentic source. If only because the Borthwicks were never, ever, a clan. Their origins lie on the continent in Livonia, then Hungary.
