Sir Charles Slingsby of Scriven, 10th Baronet

Biographical Summary

"Sir Charles Slingsby, Baronet [S 1638] of Scriven and Red House, nephew and heir, being only son and heir of Charles Slingsby, of Lofthouse Hill, by Catherine Margaret, daughter of Thomas Atkinson, of Ripley, co York, which Charles (who was born 17 March 1777 and died 20 May 1832) was 2nd an youngest son of the 8th Baronet, by his 1st wife. He was born at Lofthouse Hill, 22 and baptized 23 August 1824 at Staveley succeeded to the Baronetcy, 26 February 1835; entered the Royal Horse Guards 1843, retiring as a Lieut. 1847. He died unmarried, being drowned (with four other members of the York and Ainsty hunt) while crossing the River Ure, near Ripon, 1 and was buried 11 February 1869, at Knaresborough, aged 44. At his death, the issue male of te grantee being apparently extinct, the Baronetcy became dormant."
