Sir Archibald Denham, 5th Bt. Westshield, 6th Bt. Coltness

Biographical Summary

"Sir Archibald Steuart-Denham, Baronet [S. 1693], of Westshield, formerly Archibald Steuart, nephew of the grantee, being yst. s. of Sir Thomas Steuart, 1st Baronet [S. 1698], of Coltness, and his only surv. s. by his 2d wife Susan, relict of William Lockhart, yr. of the two sisters of Sir William Denham, 1st Baronet [S. 1693], and da. of Robert Denham abovenamed. He was b. at Utrecht, 20 July 1683; was admitted an Advocate ; suc. to the Baronetcy, as also to the Westshield estate, 29 Sep. 1756, under the entail, made by his maternal uncle, the 1st Baronet, and took the name of Denham, after that of Steuart. To him he was served heir of entail, and provision general. In 1758, by the death of his nephew, John Steuart, de jure, 5th Baronet [S. 1698], he suc. to that Baronetcy. He m. in 1724, Jane, 1st da. of Sir George Warrender, 1st Baronet [1715], of Lochend, by his 2d wife Grizel, da. of Hugh Blair, of Edinburgh. She d. 2 Feb. 1770. He d. s.p.s., 12 June 1773, in his 90th year, when the Baronetcy of Steuart [S. 1698], devolved on his cousin and heir male.
