ROBERT PENNOYER Obituary
PENNOYER--Robert M. The Trustees, Fellows, and staff of the Morgan Library & Museum mourn the loss of Life Trustee Robert M. Pennoyer. Great-grandson of J. Pierpont Morgan, grandson of J. P. Morgan, Jr., and son of Frances Tracy Morgan Pennoyer, Robert Morgan Pennoyer was born in the brownstone on East 37th Street, today appropriately called the Morgan House. Birth placed him at the center of the Morgan Library story, and he added much to it. A Trustee since 1970, Bob's character, legal acumen, energy, and amiability made him especially influential. His views on library and museum policy and practice were expressed in terms both firm and courteous, often advancing progressive initiatives. With his beloved late wife, Victoria, he made gifts of Morgan family letters and French children's books, and contributions to capital campaigns and exhibitions. Robert and Victoria Pennoyer were longtime members of the Director's Roundtable, and, since 2011, Bob served as a Life Trustee. Above all, we will miss his wise counsel. We extend our deepest condolences to the entire Pennoyer family, including Trustee Peter Pennoyer. Lawrence R. Ricciardi, Pres. Colin B. Bailey, Dir.
