About Rebecca Reed

Biography

Rebecca (Isaacs) Reed was born circa 1730 in Frederick County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Samuel Isaacs and Ann Robins.

Rebecca married Capt. Nathaniel Reed about 1748. Together they had the following children:

  1. A male Reed. b. ca. 1750 living in Jefferson Co., AL 1833 as per Nathan Reed's (b. 1763) RW pension application. (Daniel Reed?)
  2. Isaac Reed, b. 1752, d. ca. 1845 Hall Co., GA, m. Susannah Rogers ca. 1786. June Greenwell, a descendant who is now deceased thought that this may not have been his first marriage, very likely so, as he would have been in his mid-thirties, a little old for that era for a first marriage.
  3. John Reed, b. ca. 1754.
  4. Joseph Reed, b. ca. 1758.
  5. *Wm. Reed, b. 1756 probably Randolph Co., NC, d. 1840 Gilmer Co., GA, m. Frances Robins/Robbins ca. 1777 Randolph Co., NC.
  6. Nathan Reed, b. 1763, d. 1846 Perry Co., AL.
  7. Sarah Reed, b. 1768, d. 1850 Perry Co., AL, m. Samuel Boydston 1787 Greenville Dist., SC who had been a compatriot of her brother, Nathan, in the RW.

She died circa 1800 in Pendleton, Anderson County, South Carolina, United States.

Elijah Isaacs was living in the household of Nathaniel Reed on a 1761 Rowan Co., NC tax list. Not being able to account for this man, we theorized that he was possibly Nathaniel's brother-in-law; too the name Rebecca is very common to the descendants of Nathaniel Reed. The above mentioned Samuel Isaacs did have children Elijah and Rebecca, but there is no proof of the marriage. Unfortunately people have taken this theory as the gospel and have run with it
