Rachel Benjamin (Gitla Rochel bat Yisroel) was born in Poland in about 1873. According to the 1911 census, her parents married in about 1871 and appeared in London before the 1881 census. Her parents were Israel Benjamin, a Poultry Dealer and his wife Sarah Rosen or Rozen.
On 18 January 1899, according to the Marriage Authorisation of the Great Synagogue, Rachel Benjamin (Gitla Rochel bat Yisroel) married Solomon (Shlomo Eleazer ben Gershon Yacov) Melinek, like her father, a Poultry Dealer and Poultry Slaughterer who was born in Poland.
Israel Benjamin and Solomon Melinek were in business together.
Solomon and Rachel had six children together and the last, Cissy, was born on 19 November 1910 and died on 8 December, following her mother Rachel to the grave.
Rachel died on 27 November 1910 aged only 37 years old, leaving six children with no mother, at 62, Bell Lane in Spitalfields and was buried at Edmonton.

Solomon married again but only after he was present at the death of his father-in-law and business partner Israel Benjamin, on 29 June 1914.
