Regimental Saddler. The regimental saddler receives orders and instructions from the commander of the regiment. He is required to repair the horse-equipments of the field and staff of the regiment. He instructs the company-saddlers how to do their work; and when they are assembled to work in one shop, he acts as foreman. He must keep a correct account of all the tools and material instrusted to his care, and at all times he able to account for them.

" VETERAN OF THE CIVIL WAR IS CALLED

A. F. Robinson died Saturday night --Funeral Tuesday afternoon.

A. F. Robinson an aged and well known resident of this city, died at his home at 618 North Galena avenue at 12:30 o'clock Saturday night, after an illness of several months duration. Mr. Robinson was born March 20, 1837, in Pike,Wyoming County, New York, He would have been 75 years old his next birthday. He enlisted in the war of the rebellion with the 130th New York regiment and was later transferred to the 1st Dragoons. He served three years.

Mr. Robinson, was married Oct. 21, 1860, to Marietta McWethy. His children survive. They are Minnie, Nellie, Mrs. C. C. King, Edmund, Burtrum G. and Freeman H. They all reside in Dixon with exception of Edmund, who lives in Vancouver, B.C.

Mr. Robinson, came to Dixon at the close of the war and has been a resident of this city since that time, a period of 46 years, nineteen of which he conducted a shoe store here. He united with St. Paul's Lutheran church under the pastorate of Rev. S.S.Walz, and for many years was very active in the work of the church.

The funeral will be held from the late home Tuesday at 3 p.m. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Altman. Interment will take place at Oakwood cemetery, under the direction of the G.A.R."

Service

Originally mustered into service as the 130th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment it was converted to cavalry on July 28, 1863 and designated as the 19th Regiment New York Volunteer Cavalry. The men were recruited from Allegany, Livingston, and Wyoming counties. The 19th Cavalry was officially re-designated as the 1st Regiment of Dragoons on September 10, 1863. [1] The term dragoon generally refers to mounted infantry or light cavalry.

Originally assigned to the Cavalry Corps, Army of the Potomac the Dragoons moved to the Army of the Shenandoah with General Philip Sheridan.

During its service, the 1st New York Dragoons fought in 64 battles, captured 19 pieces of artillery and four Confederate battle flags. After marching in the Grand Review at Washington D.C. at the close of the Civil War, the Dragoons were mustered out of service at Cloud’s Mills, Virginia on June 30, 1865.
