About "Planter" John Lewis, Sr.
DAR Ancestor # A070031
Biography
1776 Project
John Lewis Sr. performed Patriotic Service in Virginia in the American Revolution.
JOHN LEWIS Sr. was a planter who lived near Scottsville, Albemarle Co., Va. Although there was no proof, JOHN Sr. claimed to be the son of Owen Lewis who was suppose to be a nephew or perhaps younger son of Zachary Lewis, the Welsh immigrant.
Owen Lewis appears on the church register of the Theological Seminar, Fairfax Co., Virginia, contemporaneously with a Zachary Lewis. The two names are perpetuated in the family in that PLANTER JOHN LEWIS Sr. has a son Owen, and a son named Zachariah "Zachary" who died young. While this is not proof that John Sr. is the son of Owen Lewis, it does have some bearing.
