I think the confusion comes because there are at least 3 Mordecai Lincolns.

So some people refer to the 1st and 2nd Mordecais as Sr. and Jr., while others refer to the 2nd and 3rd Mordecais as Sr. and Jr.

Mordecai Lincoln was born on April 24, 1686 in Hingham, Massachusetts, and married Hannah Salter. He was an iron master. (The Scituate Historical Society home in Massachusetts is the Cudworth House, built on land granted to Richard Garrett before 1646. Mordecai Lincoln forged the huge cauldron on the hearth.)

Mordecai Lincoln eventually moved first to New Jersey and then to Pennsylvania, and settled on 1,000 acres of land purchased from Thomas Millard in what is now Berks County (prior to 1752 Berks County was part of Chester County). Thomas Millard's son Joseph Millard (1711-1781) later married Mordecai Lincoln's daughter Hannah Lincoln.

The Mordecai Lincoln House is a historic house in Exeter Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania built c. 1733 by Mordecai Lincoln, the great-great-grandfather of President Abraham Lincoln. The house stands in the narrow valley of Hiester Creek on a 9 acre plot near the village of Lorane on Lincoln Road.

Mordecai Lincoln and family were Quakers belonging to the Exeter Friends Meeting, which was also home to the Boone family ancestors of Daniel Boone. Mordecai Lincoln died on December 1736 in Amity, Pennsylvania and is buried in the Exeter Friends burial grounds shown below. The Exeter Friends Meeting house is still in use today near Oley, Pennsylvania in Berks County. (Berks County was part of Chester County until 1752). The archives of the Exeter Friends Meeting is housed at the Friends Historical Library at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania.

The Exeter Friends Meeting welcome sign, burial grounds, interior and exterior of meeting house today.

The Exeter Friends Meeting house in Berks County near Oley is still in use today. The grounds where Mordecai Lincoln is buried are surrounded by a stone wall which is adjacent to the Exeter Meeting house. All graves are unmarked.

Mordecai Lincoln and Hannah Salter's children included:

John Lincoln born in 1716 married Rebecca Flowers. John Lincoln was born May 3, 1716, in Freehold, Monmouth County, NJ and died in November 1788, in Linville's Creek, Rockingham County, VA. John and Rebecca's son Abraham Lincoln (1744-1786) married Bathsheba Herring on June 9, 1770, and had a child Thomas Lincoln, who was the father of President Abraham Lincoln.

Hannah Lincoln born in 1719 who married Joseph Millard (1711-1781). Joseph was one of the sons of Thomas Millard (1669-1761)was born in Amity Township, Berks County, on November 2, 1711 and died in Union Township, Berks County, in 1781. Mordecai Lincoln purchased 1,000 acres of land from Thomas Millard. (Hannah Lincoln and Joseph Millard had seven children before she died).

Deborah Lincoln who was born in 1717 or 1718 and died before 1720. A photo of the stone grave marker for Deborah Lincoln can be found on the online photo gallery of Myatt Lipscomb at http://myattphoto.com/page5.html Deborah died May 15, 1720, Age 3 years and 4 months. Buried in "Yea Old Robinson Burial Ground Since 1695" near Robbinsville and Allentown, New Jersey. Anne Lincoln born in 1724 or 1725 who married William Tallman (1720-1791).
