Michael Thomas was born circa 1720 in Culpeper County, Virginia, Colonial America. His parents were Johannes Wendel Thoma, Sr. and Anna Maria Thoma Kafer (Blanckenbuhler).

Michael married Anna Catharina Clara Thomas (Wayland) in 1737 in Virginia, Colonial America. Together they had the following children:
