GEDCOM Note

The Census of 1784 shows he had 9 children. In 1788 he deeded one hundred and sixty acres of original Wilkin farm to his brother Godfrey, Jr and at the same time three hundred and thirteen acres to his brother Philip, Sr. Records at Woodstock, Virginia. http://home.att.net/~philipwilkin/home.htm

The name Margaret Wilson as a wife was a clerk’s error.

Even more telling is a deed made by Margaret in 1812 [Hardy County Deeds 6:612 (15 Oct 1812)], whereby Margaret Wilkins, widow of Matthias, sold to Henry Fravell Sr., her dower right in lands of Matthias. Again, Margaret could not write her name, but signed with a mark.

The will concludes with a reservation: “The said Margaret Wilkins widow…reserves for her own use for… three years… the house which her son Godfrey Wilkins built on the said premises premises,” the garden, pasture for one cow, “and the use of the yard or small piece of Ground before the house which includes the spring….”
