About Mary Catherine Woods
Mary Catherine Wood was born in 1690 (or 1688) and married Michael Woods in 1704. She could not have been the daughter of Sir James Campbell of Auchinbreck, 5th Baronet, Sir James Campbell of Auchinbreck, 5th Baronet born circa 1679 and married to Susan circa 1718.

It never ceases to amaze me that so much misinformation is floating around out there on our family line.
There is some other false information that needs to be cleared up. Mary Campbell b. 1688 d. 1762 who married Michael Woods b. 1684 d. 1762 is not the daughter of Sir James Campbell of Auchinbreck by his second wife Susan Campbell. The Clan Campbell Society Genealogist has checked out this information for several the descendants who are members of the Society. Mary Campbell was born in 1688, Sir James Campbell of Auchinbreck was only 6 or 7 years of age at the time of her birth, he died 14 Oct 1756 at the age of 74, this would make the date of his birth as 1681 or 1682. Records indicate he was married to Lady Susan Campbell by 18 Dec 1717.
There are several other theories floating around there that have also been disproved. The CCSNA is very much interested in the mystery that surrounds our Mary, they are also very anxious to unravel the story of her parents and ancestors.
Someone has noted that her name may be Mary Catherine Campbell, does anyone have any records that would indicate this name is correct? I have also seen the name Margaret used.
I agree that we need to help stem the ongoing flow of misinformation that exists about this line.
This is somewhat late, but your info is wrong. According to the Miller family history written in the late 1800s, Mary Campbell was the first white woman killed in the Shenandoah Valley. That was in 1742, not 1762. Therefore, your other information is also suspect. Sorry.

she was killed by Indians. One of the Woods researchers was the late St. Clair County, Missouri historian, John Mills. He once found the graves of both Michael Woods (Sr.) and his wife, Mary Catherine Campbell near the first site of the Forks of the James Meeting House, somewhere near Glasgow, Virginia. That site has now been lost. Graves were moved to accommodate either a freeway or highway junction, leaving only these two behind(flat marble slabs) -- and unmaintained.
On the monument that may still exist with these graves, according to the late Mr. Mills, is an inscription noting that Mary was the first white woman in the Valley (Shenandoah) murdered by Indians in 1742. It is believed this was the same incident in which her son-in-law John McDowell sold liquor to the Iroquois party on its way to attack Cherokee on a hunting excursion that went too far north

Margaret Campbell - born Jun 1, 1690, Canongate Parish. Ref. 7015 [not mentioned in father's will 1703]
Anne Campbell - born Jan 12, 1692, Canongate Parish. Ref. 7023, m James Stuart, 2nd Earl of Bute

Previous research recorded:
Insufficient evidence is here offered that Archibald Campbell and his wife Elizabeth Tollemache had a daughter called either Mary or Margaret, let alone both, so they have been unlinked. They did have a second daughter after Ann, who may well have been named Margaret as the IGI entry (if genuine) suggests at [1]. The claim appearing in Wikipedia at [2] is not supported by the only reliable source cited - the DNB at [3]. Nor is Margaret mentioned by the Scots Peerage at [4] or the ODNB at [5]. Archibald may well have had an illegitimate daughter, but proof would be needed.

NOTE: The wikipedia.com bio states, "see the below " ".
"They had three children, born at Ham House outside London"
MAYBE Elizabeth gave birth to her "4th child, a daughter," some place other than "Ham House." ???????????
So her older brothers were "born in Ham in Surrey, England" maybe Mary Margaret was as well.
Siblings?

Biography
From wikipedia.com
"The eldest son of Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll and Mary Stuart, daughter of James Stuart, 4th Earl of Moray, Campbell sought to recover his father's estates (by gaining King James II's favour). However, after failing to do so, he supported William and Mary's quest for the throne; this important support led to the monarchs returning his father's estate. Also, he was made a Privy Councillor. He was William's chief Scottish advisor, and was colonel-in-chief of the Earl of Argyll's Regiment of Foot, that was involved in the 1692 massacre of the MacDonalds of Glen Coe, but took no part in any of its field operations. He was made a duke in 1701."
"On 12 March 1678, he married Elizabeth Tollemache (daughter of Elizabeth and Sir Lionel Tollemache, 3rd Baronet at Edinburgh, Scotland.
They had three children:
John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll (10 October 1680 - 4 October 1743)
Archibald Campbell, 3rd Duke of Argyll (June 1682 - 15 April 1761)
Lady Margaret Campbell (2 June 1690 - 1742), m. Michael Woods." [unsourced & most likely fictitious]
