About Mary Starnes
Mary Goldman, daughter of Conrad Goldman, was born c.1703 in Gundheim, in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Mary came with her family from Germany to New York in 1710. She married another Palatine immigrant, Frederick Starnes (or Staring) around 1721. They went first to Pennsylvania in the latter 1730's, and then to southwest Virginia by about 1740, settling eventually in the Sulphur Springs area of Smyth County.
While it is not known for certain, it is believed that Frederick and Mary are buried in the Sulphur Springs Cemetery, which is near the site of their home farm. Descendants placed a marker here in his memory in the 1990s.

The spelling is is a variation. If you look at Mary's husband's grandfather you will see he uses Stahling. The birth date in the other profile is only a guess as there are no sources to verify death date. In both profiles the husbands are the same. (pending merge due they are duplicates)<p>Mary's son uses the Starnes spelling. Some names use several variations.
