Mary Kristofferson, 74, active in the social and philanthropic affairs of Fallbrook, died of cancer Saturday at Scripps Memorial Hospital.
She remained involved in community affairs until the day before her death, said her son, Kraig Kristofferson of La Jolla, a vice president for Coldwell Banker.
Another son is Kris Kristofferson, the singer, composer and movie star who lives in Malibu.
Mrs. Kristofferson was born in Columbus, Ohio. Her father was an Army officer and the family moved frequently, though she lived in California most of her life. She graduated from Riverside High School and took her bachelor's degree from Pomona College. Her late husband was Air Force Maj. Gen. Henry C. "Kris"
Kristofferson. After retiring from the service, he became a pilot for Pan American airlines, where he remained for 22 years. For the next 10 years he worked in Saudi Arabia for the Arabian American Oil Co.(Aramco)
"My mother was a wonderful horsewoman," Kraig Kristofferson said, "and we owned, and rode, beautiful Arabian horses there. To ride out across the unmarked desert was a sensation that one remembers for a lifetime."
Mr. Kristofferson retired from Aramco in 1965, and in 1967 he and his wife settled in Fallbrook. He died Dec. 31, 1970.
Mrs. Kristofferson was a member of Country Friends and was an associate member of Angel Society of Fallbrook, a philanthropic group.
Besides her two sons, she is survived by a daughter, Karen Kirschenbauer, of Fairfax, Va., and 10 grandchildren.
In accordance with Mrs. Kristofferson's wishes, there will be no services. Her body will be donated to UCSD Medical School. The family suggests memorial contributions to her favorite charity, Interplast Inc., 378-J Cambridge Ave., Palo Alto, Ca. 94306. Interplast, a non-profit organization, does reconstructive surgery for children in countries where such surgery is not available.
