About Martin Aucoin

removed Marie-Anne Sallé & Martin Aucoin as parents of François Aucoin. There seems little proof to support it.

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Aucoin-53

Martin Aucoin was born around 1595-1600, in France.[1] He was not the son of Martin Aucoin and Suzanne Barbot / Barboteau. His parents are unknown.[2]

Martin Aucoin became a joiner, or carpenter.[2][3]

He married twice. His first wife was Barbe Minguet, whom he married in France around 1620. The couple had two daughters,

  1. Michelle Aucoin, and
  2. Jeanne Aucoin,

Following the death of his first wife, Barbe Minguet, Martin Aucoin married Marie Sallé on 20 January 1632 at the church of Saint-Barthélemy in La Rochelle.[4][5][3] The couple had at least one son,

  1. Jean Aucoin, who was baptized on 15 Nov 1632 at Saint-Barthélemy de La Rochelle. Sadly, Jean died when he was only seven months old, and was buried at Saint-Barthélemy on 25 June 1633.[2][3]

It is unknown whether Martin Aucoin ever traveled or migrated to Acadie in Nouvelle-France. His eldest daughter from his first marriage, Michelle Aucoin, had migrated to Acadie before 1642; and his second daughter, Jeanne Aucoin, also migrated to Acadia by the mid-1640s, marrying François Girouard there in about 1647.[2][3]

Martin's second wife, Marie Sallé, did migrate at some point to Acadie, where she remarried, probably sometime after 1651 to Jean Claude. She was recorded in the 1671 census, but by that time she was again a widow.[2][3]

Since no record of death has been identified for Martin Aucoin, and the date of Marie Sallé's remarriage in Acadie is unknown (although believed to be after 1651), it is unknown when and where Martin died, but is only certain to have been some years prior to 1671, by which time his wife's second husband had also died.[2][3]

Research notes

Children of Martin Aucoin. Stephen White has made substantial corrections to his 1999 genealogy of the two Aucoin families (see corrections linked to ≤ref name=DGFA/>).Based on these corrections, Martin Aucoin and his wife Barbe Minguet are the parents of sisters Michelle and Jeanne Aucoin, who used to be recorded separately. Martin and his second wife Marie Sallé no longerhave a son listed as Martin, who married Marie Gaudet.

A Francois is listed in some family trees as a child of Martin Aucoin and Barbe Minguet and the father of Martin Aucoin who married Marie Gaudet. See further details of this debate under his profile.

Arrival in Acadia. Martin's daughters Michelle and Jeanne went to Acadia with their husbands. His wife Marie Sallé also is found in Acadia in 1671 as the widow of Jean Claude, whom she married after 1651.
