About Marie-Elizabeth Gibault

History of York by Banks; page 302: re list of captives by Indians: Austin, Mary She was dau of Matthew and Mary (Littlefield) Austin, aged about five years when captured. She was sent to Montreal and doubtless put out to service in a French family. She was brought up in the Roman Catholic faith and on January 7, 1710 married Etienne Gibau of the parish of La Valterre, a carpenter. She became the mother on nine children and dying Oct. 3, 1755 was buried in the cemetery of Notre Dame of Montreal. She s recorded as Marie Elisabeth "Haustein", in the French records. Page 315...A year later [ca.1704] another marauding party killed a son of Matthew Austin residing on Cider Hill. This was the second child lost to him in this cruel warfare. These apparently long intervals between attacks gave a sense of false security only to be dashed at an unexpected moment...Page 378...Matthew is listed as a Surveyor of Highways.

Matthew Jr. was an innholder. http://helenesgenes.com/Austin.html

Jan. 25, 2016 Note by William Arthur Allen Above we have an accurate description of Mary Austins' capture and removal to Québec where she eventually married, bore 9 children and died Oct. 3, 1755 and was buried at the cemetery of Notre Dame of Montreal. The Geni profile has an inaccurate report that Mary Austin died in Maine.
