Unveil New Grave Marker For Peter Musser's Mother-Petersburg, Oct. 29-A new grave marker for Eve Musser, mother of Peter Musser, founder of Petersburg in 1801, was unveiled in the Old Springfield Reformed Church cemetery Sunday in ceremonies attended by some 100 descendants of the Musser Family.

Mrs. Frances G. Simonton of Edinburg, Pa., historian for the Huguenot Society of Pennsylvania and former regent of the Pennsylvania Daughters of the American Revolution was the speaker. The Rev. C. A. Lang read the scriptures.

The new marker replaces a stone cut in German, telling that Eve Musser was born Sept. 11, 1717 and died June 29, 1807, was the wife of Michael Musser and had 11 children.

The original hand-hewn stone had become illegible from the weather of almost 150 years. It was replaced by a gray granite marker containing the inscription, Eve Musser, born Sept. 11, 1717-died June 29, 1807.

The new marker was placed by descendants of the Warner and Shafer families of eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania who gathered in Old Springfield Church for the memorial service Sunday.

Mrs. Gust Sanfilippo of New Castle, Pa., a member of the Pennsylvania Huguenot Society was in charge of the program and spoke briefly on the memorial service being on Reformation Sunday. Vocal selections were by Mrs. Howard Heldman of Struthers, while organist was Mrs. Kirkwood Cunningham of Pittsburgh.

As a result of the religious persecution against the Huguenots in France and other European countries in the early 1700s, Michael and Eve Musser, along with six others, escaped from Rotterdam, Holland, in a borrowed boat about 1735, coming to this country. They first settled on land where New York City now stands and later migrated to eastern Pennsylvania where Michael Musser was a millwright and tavernkeeper.
