About Margery Sackville

Not the same as Margery Argentine

Note: Jordan de Sackville also m. a Margery de Aguillon, who is a different person than this Margery (a cousin), although they lived approximately the same time (but were simultaneously married to two different husbands).

Bridgman:

Sir Jordan married Margaret, daughter of Sir Robert [SIC] de Aquillion. He was summoned in the fortieth of Henry III. to take the degree of knighthood, or fine for the same. Having made common cause with the Barons, he was taken prisoner at the battle of Evesham, August 4, 1265, when their leader, the Earl of Leicester, with many others of rank and fortune, were killed. He died in 1272, leaving one son, Andrew his heir.

Disputed wife

His wife being an Aguillon has been questioned for example by Chris Phillips. See http://www.medievalgenealogy.org.uk/families/arg/argbiog.shtml#agui... :

The evidence above suggests that Margery married Giles before 1239 and lived until 1267, when Giles is mentioned, but was probably dead by c.1274, when her son Reginald appears (there is no doubt that Reginald was of age by 1267). Judging by Jordan de Sackville's Oxfordshire Inquisition Post Mortem, and others quoted by Phillips, his son Andrew was born 9 October 1253, at which date Margery was certainly married to Giles de Argentein. Andrew de Sackville does not appear in connection with the property until c.1282 (although Blomefield (vol.2, pp.181,183; vol.8, pp.412,413) gives some references vaguely dated 'temp.Henry III', in fact they must be later). The later records quoted by Phillips must be in error (Andrew perhaps being changed from 'successor' of Margery into her 'heir').
