Biography

Abel Gardner was born September 1, 1673, the son of Samuel Gardner and Mary White of Salem, Massachusetts[1] [2] [3]

Circa 1694, he married Sarah Porter, the daughter of Israel Porter and Elizabeth Hathorne of Salem[4] [2] [5], and their children included:

Samuel, born March 7, 1695[6] [7], who married Sarah, daughter of John and Hannah (Treadwell) Adams of Ipswich in 1719; and who died about 1736 [2] [3]
Jonathan, born Feb 23, 1697[8] [9], who married Elizabeth (daughter of John and Elizabeth (Weld) Gardner); and then married widow Mary Avery of Bostone, and then married widow Mary (Pickering) Palfrey of Salem ; [2]and who died November 27, 1783 [3]
Thomas, born Feb 21, 1699[10], who died in 1700[11] [2] [3]
Elizabeth, born March 30, 1701[12] [13], who married John Waters, Jr[2], the son of John and Mary Waters of Salem [3]
Thomas, baptized Oct. 14, 1705[14], who married Eunice Waters, daughter of John and Mary Waters[2] [3]
Israel, baptized October 5, 1707[15] [2] [3]

Sarah Porter died September 24, 1728[2][3], and Abel remarried Sarah King in 1731[17][2]. There are no children noted for this second marriage[3]

Abel Gardner was a tanner, a surveyor and a selectman[3]

Abel Gardner died November 10, 1739[2], and is buried in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Salem[18]. His will was dated Jan 12, 1737, and was proved November 19, 1739[3]
