About Leudesius I, duke of Alemannia
Leudesius (or Liutheric) was Mayor of the Palace of Neustria (675-676) for Childérich III. He has been called Duke of Alsace, but was not.
He is known to have been a son of Erchinoald, Mayor of the Palace of Neustria, and his wife Leutsinde. His paternal grandparents were Leutharius von Schelde and Gerberga Franconia. He had a half-sister named Sigrada (Sigree).
He inherited his father's properties in 658. In 659 he was involved in a property dispute with the Archdiocese of Rouen and Abbey of Saint-Denis. In 673, the Burgundians under Leodegar defeated Ebroin, the Neustrian mayor, and king Theuderic III. They exiled Ebroin to a monastery. The Austrasian mayor Wulfoald took over the power in Neustria, but fled back to Austrasia on the assassination of Childéric II in 675. The Neustrians turned to Leudesius to replace him. The next year, Ebroin returned. Leudesius and Theuderic III fled with the royal treasure to Baizieux, where Ebroin overtook them and had Leudesius murdered. [Wikipedia.]
He was formerly by some scholars to have been father of Eticho, Duke of Alsace, but modern research suggests Eticho was more probably the son of Dux Adalric.
