  • Parentage unknown, but she was NOT a de Ferre. She is sometimes listed as daughter of John de Ferre or wife of Guy de Ferre, but Guy's wife was another Eleanor, and this fact also contributes to the misinformation that John de Ferre was her father.

Notes

  • Eleanor's death year is unknown, but she was alive in 1330 when there was recorded that "Dame de Georges wife of Sir John Peche concerned in an assault on Margery wife of John de Donveld" (Thorne George's work, p. 25). Gorges (p. 34) in addtion points out that Eleanore's grandson, William Russell described her as a "grasping, avaricious, tyrannical woman." Though she married Sir John Peche, she continued to style herself as "Lady de Gorges."
  • He [Ralph de Gorges] m. before 20 Nov 1301, Eleanor (f). He was living 15 July, but was dead before 27 Sep 1323. His widow was granted as dower the manor of Wraxall and one-third of the manor of Braunton (25 Jan 1323/4) by assignments of 1 and 20 Mar 1323/4, enrolled 18 Dec 1324. The manors of Bradpool, Litton, and Combe, with the hundred of Beaminster, etc. had already been settled on her husband and herself cojointly. She m., in or before 1326, John Peche (1st Lord Peche), and was living 1334. [Complete Peerage VI:9-12, XIV:342]
