Sir James Morgan,4th Baraonet of Llantarnam m. (1st) widow Ann Hopton Jones, of Canon-Frome; m. (2nd) Lady Alice Hopton, of Canon-Frome, cousin of first wife. Issue (1st wife) : 1. Edward, d. infancy. (By 2nd wife) : 2. Sarah. 3. William, d. infancy. 4. Edward. Sir James is buried at Stowell, County Gloucester. All of the Baronets of llantarnam were non-jurors and adhered to the old religion, with all their resources. They were continually suffering sequestration by Parliament, of their estates, but managed to retain them by frequent compounding, the largest being for 1,007. paid by the second Sir Edward in 1666, when Parliament sequestered Pencoyd Castle, but permitted retention of Llantarnam Abbey. from which the title was derived. All the Baronets sheltered priests: and, when Llantarnam Abbey passed to the Blewetts, (Lady Frances being declared eventually heiress of Sir James). and was restored by them, many "priest holes" were priests had been concealed from the soldiers, were discovered. Sarah, the oldest daughter, m. Stephen Bazelle or Baptist, joined her husband's faith and was expelled from her home, in consequence. She sailed with her husband for America, accompanied by her youngest brother Edward (or, perhaps. he joined her afterwards in Philadelphia. VI. below.)
