About Kerei Te Paki
Kerei Te Paki fought along side King Tawhiao at the battle of Rangiriri, on his escape from the battle fields he was caught between the british soldiers and Lake Waikare. He hid under the reeds and was rescued by a pakeha farmer who he befriended before the war, they rowed across the lake to safety.
