From the research of Robert Allen:
Joseph Allen was b. abt.1699, in Stafford Co., VA. He married Mary (?) in abt. 1724/26 period. He died in 1770 in Orange Co., NC. They had 6 children, John, William, Daniel, George, Joshua, Elizabeth and Sarah. Their mother Mary dies about 1745. Joseph then marries his second wife, Sarah (?) and they have 4 children, Solomon, Samuel, Elisha and Joseph (Jr.). The children of Joseph and Mary are all adults in Loudoun Co. VA. Sarah and Joseph’s children are minor when the family is moving to Orange Co., NC and that should be considered when researching them. I have a lot of deeds for this period before the move. They move from Loudoun Co., VA to Hogan’s Creek, Orange Co., North Carolina starting in 1765 and most are in Orange Co. by 1767/68.
Most of Joseph’s children settle on Hogan’s and Prewitt’s Creek. The creeks lie, like Lost Creek and Troublesome Creek, in Clay and Perry Counties, KY, where we later settle, except the ridge between the creeks in Orange Co., NC is much less in elevation and steepness which would make it easier to communicate between families. I have many deeds for Joseph’s children on Hogan’s Creek showing relationships, etc.
ORANGE, GUILFORD AND ROCKINGHAM COUNTIES, NORTH CAROLINA
In 1770, Joseph Allen completed and filed a Will in which he lists his children. He dies on Hogan’s Creek, in Orange Co. NC, in 1770.
Mary? Allen,
Sarah? Allen
William, John, Daniel and George, his sons, purchase 480 acres of land from Joseph Scott and wife Janet, in 1770 on Hogan’s Creek, in Orange Co. which solidifies the families presence in Guilford and Rockingham counties as they are divided. We never move from Hogan’s Creek, as the county lines change.
Mary Hackney was born in 1700, in Stafford, Virginia, British Colonial America. She had at least 6 sons and 1 daughter with Joseph Allen.
Elizabeth Allen was born about 1737 in King George, Virginia to parents Joseph Allen and Mary Hackney.
