Robert A. Ivey, Grindal Shoals Gazette, July 5, 2011.

John Abraham Jasper (son of Thomas Jasper and Sarah Ann Taylor) was born around 1722 in Augusta County, Virginia and died October 1799 in Union County, South Carolina.
Another middle name of Andrew was reported.
He married Mary Herndon on 1748 in Virginia
John was a blacksmith.Came from Augusta County, VA to Union County, SC. Previously, John had lived in Frederick County, VA. At least part of his family had moved to Union County, SC by circa 1774.
John was most probably a direct descendant of the John Jasper who came to Richmond County, VA on the ship Mary of Bristol in 1634. This line of Jaspers came to America from the vicinity of Monmouth, England.
There are several lists of children given by different genealogists, but this writer (Robert Ivey) only deals with the children that are provable. John married Mary Herndon and had at least 8 children.
There are strong traditional accounts that attach Sgt. William Jasper to the list of children. The Reverend J. D. Bailey who knew personally the daughter of Nancy Jasper Moseley states that he was told that Nancy Jasper Moseley was the sister of Sgt. William Jasper. This tradition has been passed down through the years in all of the family connections.
Moore and Coates lists the children of John Abraham and Mary (Herndon?)

John Andrew Jasper was listed as John Andrew Jasper by his wife in documents. It was only a guess by descendants that because his eldest son was named Abraham that the A. in John A. Jasper was Abraham. Also John's son Nicholas's oldest son was named John "Abe" Jasper.

John Andrew Jasper d. 1799 Discussion
November 16, 2022

Years ago, Robert Ivey wrote a history in South Carolina, where he guessed that John Jasper had married a Mary Herndon, and that his parents might be a Thomas Jasper and Sarah Taylor of Virginia. He had no documentation at the time. Years later he was able to document that John Andrew Jasper was married to Mary Herrington, not Mary Herndon. I was able to discover that Thomas Jasper was Thomas Jesper. He had a son John, but he died decades earlier in Virginia and left a will. There is no documentation of any relationship between John Andrew Jasper and Mary Herndon, nor relationship to Thomas Jesper and Sarah Taylor. The links have been made by overzealous amateur genealogists who based their work on an book that merely guessed. Temple work has been performed with no documentation. I have worked on this direct line for 50 years.

This is 3 Sept 1764 date is the probate date of the will of John Jesper who was married to a Mary but not Mary Herrington. John Andrew Jasper was married to Mary Herrington and John Andrew Jasper is NOT John Jesper and not related to him in any way.
