JOHN HAMILTON OF GRANGE

John Hamilton of Grange is the son of Sir John Hamilton of Grange and his wife Margaret Hamilton. Hamilton Memoirs, p. 256

Death

According to his testament dative, John Hamilton of Grange died in April 1675 National Records of Scotland, Commissary Records of Glasgow, Testament Dative of John Hamilton of Grange, who died in April 1675, reference CC9/7/41 pp. 324-25] This must be wrong, however, for his widow, Jean Bruce, Lady Airth, married for a second time on 14 December 1674. [National Records of Scotland, Edinburgh Marriage Records, reference OPR.685/1 440 155] It cannot be regarded as certain, but it seems quite likely, therefore, probable even, that he died in April 1674 and not in April 1675.

Lady Airth afterwards pursued John Hamilton of Grange, the younger, for a debt which she claimed was incurred by his deceased father but the Court of Session ruled against her. Decisions of the Lords of Council See also Morrison's Descisions of the Court of Session

The Testament Dative and Invemtory of the deceased John Hamilton of Grange was given up by his son John Hamilton of Grange, to whom confirmation was granted on 6 October 1675. First Marriage
