About John Dee
John Dee? - or should this be John Daa?
Interestingly from the Book: Bye-Gones: Relating to Wales and The Border Counties. The surnames of Day and Tye are derived from the Welsh personal name of Dei, a term of endearment for David. Dee is the anglicized name of the Welsh word of Du. (Black). or Ddu..
In this book: Collections for a History of Staffordshire, we have the spelling for Day as Daa. Day is also written as Daa in the book: Bromley, Midlands Family history - see link to book below..................... https://books.google.ca/books?id=AFXitTEl3DoC&pg=PA42&lpg=PA42&dq=w...
So is the origin of the Day family surname Dee or Daa or Dei??? From the information below it's looks like Daa and not Dee is the original surname of the Richard Day of Worfield branch of the Day surname. Potentially originating from Warin Le Grosvenor of Little Budworth.

- **interesting*** see pages 150 and 151. for a very interesting revelation on the origins of the Day family name!?! It also looks like the Daa family of Little Budworth aligns with the Richard Day of Worfield family tree. There is various written history of a Robert Daa, a William Daa and even a John Daa, Knight.
also see book :Miscellanies, Relating to Lancashire and Cheshire, Volume 31 link below - see pages 16, 17, 18, 19 and more: https://books.google.ca/books?id=NX86AQAAMAAJ&pg=PA46&lpg=PA46&dq=j...

The search for the origins of he Day Family continues! We have Morgan Dee 1390 as the father of John Dee here on this website - but thats as far as we are allowed to go! It may be because Morgan Dee is wrong as John Dee should be actually be John Daa. There is records of a Robert Daa, a William Daa and even a john Daa, Knight. We know for sure that there was a Richard Day of Worfield that had not one but 2 sons who become Bishops in the 1500's.
We also have a written document from the Denver Public Library originally compiled in 1848 by Reverend George Edward Day and gifted 1973 by Leonard F. Day that says the Day/Dee family originated from Royal Welsh descent. (potentially, but it looks like on the mothers side if you read about Warine Le Grosvenor of Little Budworth)
There were many events in the 1300's - the Black Plague , many battles, where the Welsh were fighting the English. But there also there were welsh on the same side with the english. It is interesting that Morgan is a name of Welsh descent - but where or how did the last name Dee came from - was it simply because they lived along the river Dee? Or was Dee supposed to be spelled as Daa?
