Mrs. Phil W. Petmecky, 74, nee Janice Louise Richie, of San Antonio, died Sunday, April 3, 2011. A memorial service was held Sunday, April 10, in San Antonio. Mrs. Petmecky was born Nov. 26, 1936, in Uvalde, the daughter of Joseph F. Richie and Emma Jean Burress Richie (Emma Jean was a daughter of J.W. Burress and granddaughter of Luther Rice Burress). She married Phil W. Petmecky on June 29, 1962, and he survives. The Richie family followed the oil fields and lived in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. She graduated from Winters High School in Winters and Baylor University, and then moved to San Antonio to begin her elementary education teaching career. Mrs. Petmecky was an active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time at the family ranch in Gillespie County. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Petmecky is survived by two daughters, one son and spouses, including Patricia and Russell Broyles, Paul and Valerie Petmecky and Peggy and James Payne, all of San Antonio, and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Lyuba Richie of California and Frank and Donna Richie of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Anne Martin.
