<p>Jane Sutton nee Andrews 1830-1911</p><p><p></p></p><p>Jane was the eldest child of Abraham and Sarah Andrews having been born in Bisphopstone Wiltshire England. She was 7 years old when the family emigrated to Australia and her parents took up a position with Mr Chilcott in the Glennies Creek area near Singleton. She attended school for an unknown period of time,but at the time of her marriage to James Sutton the marriage register signature was marked with a cross. Jane was married at the age of 14 years in St. Clement’s Church of England Church at Camberwell. It was the first marriage celebrated in the Church,which at the time did not have a floor or a roof and the walls were not completed to the finished height. Jane gave birth to her first child before reaching the age of 15 years.After her marriage she still attended school during her pregnancy. Jane gave birth to a total of 16 children some of whom did not survive. Seven of the children who survived were married and had children and is the largest branch of the Andrews Family Tree. In the 1880's five of the boys, Abraham, David, Edward, John, and Richard took up work together taking the telegraph line from Singleton to Deepwater and from there,on to Yetman.The line was completed in 1889 and they decided to remain in the area after their contracts were completed.They all purchased properties and there are many descendants still in the area to this day. Jane was acknowledged as a fine dressmaker and seamstress and made many of the fine clothes worn by her daughters.Of stout build Jane at the time of her death in her 81st year weighed 18 stone.Part of the old home is still standing on the property at Glennies Creek where Jane lived for almost all her married life.
