About James Toy
The following information comes from "A Genealogy of the Toy Family of Western Pennsylvania As Compiled and Written By Rebecca S. Toy. 2007":
“Peter Toy stayed in Walkshalk, along with his brother William and James who both lived nearby, and seems to have done well as a farmer, working alongside of his in-laws, the Bowsers, a prolific clan, who were known as dairy farmers. He and William are listed in ""The History of Armstrong Co." as charter members of the Limestone Church of God, a Lutheran Church founded in 1824 by primarily PA Germans in the Sugarcreek Township. The main language for sermons was German until 1854, when Rev. J. A. Nuner changed the language of the services to English, which caused many of the original members to leave that church community."
"James Toy, who was a farmer like his brothers, is also listed in the 1860 census as a Reverend of Christ Church."
