Lived in Westmoreland now Fayette County, Pennsylvania, at the outbreak of the Revolution. There enlisted May 1 1781 as ensign under Captains Pigman and Felty, and Colonel Cook. His commission as ensign at age of 17 was signed by Governor Mifflin of Pennsylvania. Applied pension in Wood County, Virginia in 1834. His claims were supported Thomas Pribble, Hiram Pribble, and Adam Deem a brother. The claim was rejected.

Birth* Jacob Deem Sr was born on 9 April 1764 at Frederick County, MD; census records say he was born in PA. and military records say MD.1 Military* Joined the military on 1 May 1781 at Westmoreland County, PA; at the time of the Revolutionary War, Jacob Sr. was residing at home with his father in Fayette County Pa. He enlisted in the Pennsylvania Militia as ensign under Captains Pigman and Felty and Colonel Cook. His commissin as ensign at age 17 was signed by Governor Mifflin of PA.

He also was a scout in the Indian War.

Jacob appears in the DAR Patriot Index - Centennial Edition as having served as an Ensign in the Pennsylvania Militia.2 Note* He and Mark Deem went in October 1786 at Pike Run Township, Washington County, PA. Marriage* He married Eva Ann Cox, daughter of Michael Cox Sr and Elizabeth Desloch, circa 1787 at PA. Census Jacob Deem Sr and Eva Ann Cox appeared on the census of 1790 at Luzerne Township, Fayette County, PA; Jacob Deem Head of Household. Free white males of sixteen years & upwards, including heads of families 1. Free white males under sixteen years 1. Free white females including heads of families 2.3 Note Jacob Deem Sr came to Wood County, (W.) Va., from Brownsville (Red Stone), Fayette County PA. with his brother, Adam Deem Sr. in 1796. Note He and his brother Adam Deem, served on a commission appointed by the County Court to view and mark a road from "Lee's Ripple" at the mouth of Lee's Run, just above Newark, to the mouth of Goose Creek, Adam Deem's home. after 1796. Residence* He lived between 1796 and 1850 at Chesterville, Wood County, (W)VA. Note He is listed on the tithables tax list. in 1797 at Wood County, (W)VA. Pennslyvania, that I was personally knowing to his enlistment and that he was in the service of the United States six months, that we have ever since lived in ________________? and our families never further than 20 or 30 miles apart, and I never heard it doubted or even questioned but Adam my brother a foresaid was a revolutionary soldier.
