About Jack William Lazootin, USN

Jack William Lazootin, son of William Safonich Lazootin and wife Martha Prakopinva Reshatoff, was born in San Francisco, California on September 14, 1925. He appears on the 1940 US Census for San Francisco, aged 14, single and living in his parents’ home. He died in Los Gatos, California on July 12, 1974. His family cremated his remains and his ashes were scattered.

Jack served in the Unites States Navy during World War II. His name appears on the muster rolls in 1946 aboard the USS Baham (AG71). The Baham was originally commissioned as an auxiliary ship to deliver troops and supplies. She was refitted and recommisioned in 1945 as an electronics repair station and sent to the Marshall Islands in the Pacific.

Jack’s name appears on the muster rolls for 1946 for the USS Arctic (AF7). The Artic was a supply ship making frequent trips from the West Coast to Pearl Harbor, and from there to various ports in the Pacific, delivering food and other necessary supplies.

Jack’s name appears on the muster rolls for 1947, as Fireman 1st class, aboard the USS Buck (DD-761). The Buck was a destroyer that patrolled the west coast of North America from Acapulco to Alaska.

After his military service, Jack became a carpenter.

Jack married Virginia Ann Maddox. They were divorced in September 1972 in Santa Clara County, California. They had one daughter.
