About Isac Meyer Jude genannt Walch
In 1543 the sources in Worms mention someone who owes money to “Isac Meyer Jude genannt Walch” (see Diana Matut, Dichtung und Musik im Frühneuzeitlichen Aschkenas, Volume II: Kommentar (Leiden: Brill, 2011), p. 365, note 736: StA Worms Abt. 1 B Nr. 2036/4). Probably he is identical with Isack Walch who in 1544 applied to the city council of Worms for permission to repair his house (see Daniel J. Cohen, “An Autographic Letter by Moshe Wallich, Author of the KUH-BUCH,” Studies in Bibliography and Booklore 14 (1982), p. 9, note 17). Isack Walch is the only adult of that name known to have lived in Worms in the middle of the sixteenth century. The identification of Isack as the father of the five brothers in the third known generation of Wallich (i.e. Maier, Beifuβ, Abraham, N.N., and Lazarus) is based on three arguments. First, the Memorbuch of Worms mentions the name of the father of two brothers, Maier and Abraham. Second, three of the brothers had a son named Isaac. And third, one of the five brothers is called Maier, like the father of Isack Walch. Source: Jona Schellekens, The Wallich List from Worms. Aschkenas 25 (2015): 181-204.
