In 908 the Isma'ilis, with the help of the Berber Kutama tribes, succeed ed in setting up a Fatimid kingdom in Qayrouan. From this springboard th ey later conquered Egypt and established the Fatimid Caliphate as a riv al to the 'Abassid Empire of Baghdad. Many Berber tribes then became Shi' a, leaving the Kharijism they had accepted in the preceeding century.

The Fatimids however were more interested in the eastern Arab world and lo st interest in the Maghreb. Without a strong central government, Berber tr ibes again fought each other, none of them being strong enough to establi sh its dominance. The wars between the Sanhajah tribes of the east, fighti ng for the Shi'a-Isma'ili Fatimids of Cairo and the western Zanatah trib es fighting for the Sunni Ummayyad Caliphs of Cordoba evolved into a Hundr ed Years War of the Maghreb.

Maulaana Imaam Abdullah AlMehdi Billaah was born in the city of Askare Mukarram of Khouristaan ,in the night preceding the 12th of Shawwaal e Kareem , 260 Hijri,and by other accounts in 259 Hijri . His mother's name is Baara /بارَّۃ, who is also known by the name Ummul Khair. , she was the daughter of Maulaana Mehdi Billaah's Uncle Saeed ul Khair - Muhammad bin Imaam Ahmad bin Imaam Abdullah alaihimis salaam . Maulaana Mehdi Billaah became Imaam when he was just 8 years of age . Amongst all the acheivements ,one being the establishment of Fatimid Empire is also the building of a new city by the name of AlMadeenatul Baizaa , more commonly known as Al Mehdiyya .in the month of Shawwaal e Kareem 308 Hijri . He died in the path of Allaah e Zuljalaal in the night preceding the 15th of Rabi'ul Awwal 322 Hijri in Mehdiyya . He was 61 years , 5 months and 3 days old of age .
