Hildegard Tõru, CHARLOTTE, NC Hildegard Tõru, 88, passed away early Friday morning, May 21 2010, at the Asbury Care Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born in Estonia on September 25, 1921, one of seven children born to Mare and Mihkel Muul. She fled from Estonia to Sweden during World War II and later immigrated to Canada. She moved to Waynesboro, Virginia, in 1977. Hilde was artistic; she worked as a clothing designer and seamstress and enjoyed floral design and gardening. In addition to her parents and several siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Endel Tõru. She is survived by her daughter, MarieAnn North and son-in-law, Alexander Edward Thornburg, of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister and brother-in-law, Heljo and Helmuth Suitso of Toronto, Canada; and many close friends in Waynesboro, Virginia, including Lisa Jackson and Peggy Adams. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at West Waynesboro Church of Christ, 2212 Cortland Street, Waynesboro, Virginia, with Pastor Alton Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. An informal gathering will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the funeral home. For those wishing to make donations, Hilde's favorite charity was Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509. Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes has been entrusted with arrangements.
