”I previously had Joshua Lamb and Mary Alcock of the Roxbury (Massachusetts Bay) Lambs as parents for Henry. I now think this is doubtful. In Marshall Styles' book on the descendants of Elizabeth and Henry Lamb he shows no known parents for Henry and discusses the often-seen purported connections between Henry and the Roxbury Lambs. He states that he has found no evidence to support such a connection. - FR”
”Marshall Styles' book on Henry & Elizabeth and their descendants states that no reliable record has been found for Henry's birthplace. He states that Henry was born "about 1697" and it is not even known with any certainty whether he was born in the colonies or immigrated from somewhere in Britain. As can be seen above, many birthplaces are claimed, but I have yet to see any credible evidence supporting any of them. - FR
Biographical Summary
From Styles, p. 15:
"Henry Lamb, the progenitor of this family, was born about 1697, so tradition holds. He died on 10 Feb 1761 in St Lukes Parish, Rowan, NC. That fact was recorded in The Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Volume 1, North Carolina, by William Wade Hinshaw Hinshaw, page 660, at the Center Monthly Meeting, Guilford County, North Carolina."
Henry's will (see above) was probated 22 April 1761 (op. cit., p. 20), so the 1774 date above is clearly an error.

Notes for Henry Lamb:
A Henry Lamb in North Carolina was found in Hathaway's North Carolina Historical and Genealogical Register, where on pg 147, it lists July 1715 Court Notes at Cowan, N.C. and says hero, "Patrick Laughly proves ___for importation of 13 people, including Thomas and Henry Lamb. (It should be noted that importation does not necessarily mean from overseas. The Quaker Yeoman, points out that it could mean from another colony. Henry was received from Nauncemond MM, VA in 1739--see below). However, that does not necessarily mean he was a resident of that area. Eight surrounding counties in lower Virginia listed their membership at Nauncemond MM even though they had monthly meetings of their own. All governmental records for the Nauncemond area were destroyed by fire or during the war of 1812.
More research needs to be done into ship arrival records during this time period. It is possible that Henry is the arriving ancestor. Henry is mentioned in Vol., I, pg 57 of Encyclopedia of Am. Quaker Gen. in Perquiminns Co., where he and his family were received from Nauncemund MM, Va. on 2/4/1739. A Henry is on the 1740 tax in Perquimans Co., 1743 per deed #131. In Oct. 1760, Henry requested a transfer of his church membership to New Garden MM, Guildford, Col, N.C. He was received there 11/29/1760, together with Joseph, Jacob and Thomas (his sons). Book of Randolph Co., 1779 - 1878 at Level Cross Methodist Chruch, Branson's Mill on 1820 Polecat Creek, Lambs, Vickreys and Swaims. the 1761 Tax lists Elizabeth Lamb and son Jacob and 2 negroes (Henry died Feb. 1761). 1785 Tax List, 100 acres on Polecat Creek, Randolph Co., N.C. 1790 Tax List, NC 172, no twp. 100 acres, Randolph Co. 1790 Census lists a Henry Lamb with 2 white males under 16, 1 white male over 16 & 3 females, Hillsborough District, Randolph Co., N.C. 1799 Tax Year, 1 white pole, 146 acres, Randolph Co., 328-01101-02001-00 Gen. Soc., vol 1, # 2. 1815 Tax List 1820 Tax List 56 Acres on Polecat Creek, $100., New Salem, NC 1820 census--one male under 10, one 10-15, three 16-25, one 26-44, four females under 10, two 10-15, one 26-44, one foreign born, not naturalized, farmer and has three slaves.

Gen. Soc., Vol 1, 1977 of Randolph Co., under Vickrey Family Gen. Delilah Lamb born 5/16/1784, died 5/18/1854, daughter of Henry Lamb, (this is not our Henry) and Ann Dennis buried in old Union Cemetery near Jamestown, Guilford Co., N.C. married to Harmon Vickery. (Jamestown is not far from Randolph Co. line). This must have been an earlier Henry). (This was not our Henry, our Henry died 1761--before Delilah's birth). Henry mentioned Gloving tools in his will, so he evidently followed this trade throughout his lifetime.
Henry rocf Naunsemond MM on 4 April 1739 to Perquimans (Walls, Piney Woods). No real proof as to his father. Several genealogists have suggested his father was probably Joshua, Jr. This needs to be verified. Patrick Laughley proves rights for importation of 13 people including Thomas Lamb and Henry Lamb. No information as to the date of this act or where the information came from. This could mean Thomas (3 generations earlier) had a brother, also named Henry. Henry moved his wife and eight children to Perquimans Co., N.C. from Naunsemond Co., Va in 1739. He was a Quaker and the cruel treatment of that sect may have been part of the reason for his move. The MM of Friends in Perquimans (sometimes called Walls, later Piney Woods) received the Lamb family on a certificate from Nansemond MM on 4 April 1739. Henry purchased a hundred acre farm from Samuel Newby on 12 Oct. 1740, BK D NO. 23, Perquimans Co. The farm was located in the Ballacheck section of Perquimans (Now Hertford Township), near Cypress Swamp(now Goodwins Mill Creek). "BEGINNING AT A DEAD PINE AT THE COUNTRY ROAD, AND THEN RUNNING A DIRECT LINE FROM THENCE TO THE CYPRESS SWAMP, TO THE HEAD OF DEEP BRANCH. He appeared on the 1740 tax list of Perquimans with three titables. He purchased another 50 acres in the same area from James Padget on 24 Aug. 1743. BK F NO. 393 - 29 JULY 1760, FROM HENRY LAMB TO CALEB WHITE, 150 ACRES - FOR 100 POUNDS. ".... ON SOUTH SIDE OF CYPRESS CREEK... BEGINNING AT THE MOUTH oF A BRANCH A LITTLE BELOW CYPRESS BRIDGE... TO A DEAD PINE STANDING BY THE MAIN ROAD.... DOWN DEEP BRANCH TO THE CYPRESS SWAMP..." After 21 years here, Henry moved again. On 29 July 1760 he sold all his land and on the 1st of Oct. he requested a certificate to New Garden, where he was received on 29th of Nov. He evidently followed his sons Jacob and Joseph to Rowan Cownty, which then included the entire northwest quarter of N.C. Most of his other children also settled there. Isacc evidently was not there when Henry made his will in the Parish of St. Luke, Rowan Co., Feb. 7, 1761, as he mentions that he leaves land to Isaac and wife, if he will come up there to live. Henry died Feb. 10, 1761.
Abstract of N. C. wills 1760-1800 Will Bk I, dated 7 Feb. 1761, p. 275 Rowan Co. (that part later became Randolph), Henry Lambe, wife Eliz., sons Esau, Jacob, Joseph, daus; Eliz., & Bethia. Exrs. Jacob & Joseph: Witnesses Christopher Nation, Benjamin Beeson. Also names Thomas Lamb. According to material from Tho. S. Lamb, Marcellers, MI, Henry's wife, Elizabeth died in Perquimins and he remarried there in about 1759, before going to Rowan Co. Did he have three wives--not unusual in those days (but his will dated 1761, names his wife as Elizabeth). 1760, 11, 29 Henry rocf Perquimans MM, N.C. , dated 1760,10,5 (center MM)
