About Hawise
Her name probably was Hawise; her ancestry is unknown. She is certainly not Hawise Fergant of Brittany - that poor child was married to Baldwin VII of Flanders when she was nine and he was twelve. Such marriages were, traditionally, conditional and could be annulled at physical maturity if one or both parties found it displeasing. Apparently somebody did, because it was dissolved in 1111 (final decree in 1115) - and neither of them ever remarried.
This Hawise and Geoffroy de Porhoët remained successfully married and had (at least) five children, starting c. 1109:
- Eudes (II) de Porhoët (c. 1109-after 1180), witnessed charter dated 15 Jun 1130 (presumed to be of age by then)
- Joscelin de Porhoët (c. 1110s-after 1153)
- Alain de Porhoët (Alain la Zouche) (c. 1110s-1190)
- Etienne de Porhoët (c. 1120s?-?)
- Amicie de Porhoët (c. 1120s?-after 1152) m. Guillaume (I) seigneur de Montfort (?-1157)
